If it was a matter of survival and there truly was absolutely no other option than to eat meat then yes, I think I would (anyone who says otherwise is either suicidal, a liar or extremely naive)! Though if I had to actually slaughter the poor creature I wouldn't know how... and I don't know if I could... I suppose at some point a survival instinct kicks in.
Having been vegan for 3 years and vegetarian since early 2001, at this point the idea of eating meat is pretty disgusting to me. It would take some pretty extreme circumstances to bring about a situation in which I had no other option than to eat meat in order to survive!

I will admit that I do fear death. It's an unknown to me and the unknown is pretty scary to me! There's also the fact I'm a parent to take into account, I would never willingly abandon my family (as long as I remain in my right mind, at least).
This question, for me, is not far off the "would you eat a human if you were trapped somewhere and it was either that or die?" (A question I find pretty much impossible to answer!) I'm of the opinion that at some point a survival instinct kicks in and in extreme situations people do things that they wouldn't even consider in civilised society.
Wow! Veggie since the 1960s, that's great to hear! I've met so many people who say to me "oh, I used to be veggie..."
P.S. I have a lot more photos of me... I haven't posted them here yet because my family (underage cousins, parents, grandparents, future in laws, etc) view my stream. I have been thinking about uploading some marked as friends only or something.

No, they tell them not to do it and don't give any more information. My son just did sex ed in WA and they don't really tell you what a condom is, much less tell the kids to use them IF they have sex, even though they shouldn't have sex.

Abstinence Program Fails; Bush Sets Puberty Age at 18

A Study commissioned by Congress promoting abstinence only programs has proven completely ineffective in preventing or delaying teenagers from having sexual intercourse. Therefore, President Bush has set the minimum age for puberty at 18 for all U.S. youth.
"The problem is that teenagers are going through puberty at much younger ages than they did 30 years ago", Bush stated. "Therefore, I have signed legislation setting the minimum age for puberty at 18". I am sick and tired of hearing about children going through school with bad grades simply because of this puberty thing."
Acting Surgeon General Rear Admiral Kenneth P. Moritsugu, M.D., M.P.H. said that with proper hormonal treatment puberty can be delayed indefinitely. "Desperate time call for desperate measures", Moritsugu stated. "By delaying puberty we can prevent children from having sex, reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies and eliminate the possibility of sexually transmitted diseases".
"I have seen girls as young as nine with breasts and pubic hair", Moritsugu continued. "And I have heard anecdotal reports of boys that age getting erections. Mr. Bush and I agree that we must set a definite limit before it gets totally out of control".
Doctors and scientists do not fully understand why children are going through puberty so young though there is a consensus that the only way to stop it from happening is medical intervention.
"We will increase border patrols to prevent young people from going to Canada or Mexico for puberty", said Homeland Security Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell.
Not everyone favored the change to the puberty age. "If he pulls this off I'm leaving the country", said New York Pharmacist and father of three John Bakerman.
Bush did say that children who have already started will be allowed to keep their puberty, albeit in a more hormonally balanced way.
The Bill is expected to be approved by the House but may face a opposition from the hornier, Democratically controlled Senate

I look at it this way, in the West we have such a high level of freedom that it is possible for us to express our beliefs about Western Religion. Personally, not speaking for Gail, I see millions of people killed in the name of Jesus Christ and I see Christian institutions in the US trying to tell us what we can do. In the full democratic tradtion I have created an avitar to express my anger at the mass floods of blood and oppression unleashed in the name of Christ.
As for Islam, their civilization is not at the point that allow democratic discourse and freedom (kiind of like Flickr).
I don't see why because there are murders in the name of Islam here in London who make it risky to offend Islams MEANS that I should give up my right to create art to express my feelings about Christianity. Anyways I am from a Christian society and raised in the folds of that church, and I wish to express my feelings about it.
Anyways the picture is marked restricted, it won't show up in explorer or search, and you have to be a registered Flickr user with an Yahoo account and search safe turned off to see it. I find this extremely limiting, but its hard to say that this picture is in mass circulation.
But don't worry, Muslims all over the world are suffering death, poverty and persecution for their religion, so don't think they are getting away with anything. Millions of Iraqi Muslims have been made refugees and 100,000s killed, so its not like they are getting away with anything.

"The hotel predominantly markets itself towards homosexual males,towards gay men and we want to protect the integrity of the venue aswell as continue to make the men feel comfortable," McFeely said. "When large numbers of heterosexuals or even lesbians are in the hotelthat changes the atmosphere and many gay men can feel uncomfortable." The landmark decision by a civil tribunal gives the establishment --which does not offer accommodation -- the right to refuse entry topeople considered a threat to the safety and comfort of its patrons. Helen Szoke, the chief executive of the Victoria state government'sEqual Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, said the Peel Hotel'sgay clientele had experienced harassment, hostility and violence. "(They) also have felt as though they've been like a zoo exhibit withbig groups of women on hens' parties coming to the club," she said. McFeely said it would be easy to sort out desirable gays from undesirable straights and lesbians. "It is particularly easy to implement with the females 'cause that is pretty obvious. "With the heterosexual males, if they identify themselves as that atthe door, or indeed we question their behaviour in the venue and ifthey come across as being heterosexual, then we will simply ask them toleave if the behaviour is unappropriate." Human rights group Liberty Victoria supported the decision, vice-president Michael Pearce said. "There are numerous places where heterosexual people can go," he said. In the case they cited anotherprecedent for a women's gym called Fernwood, which petitionedsucessfully for the right to cater to females only. Gentlemen's Clubshave excluded women from their rooms for centuries. Nunnerys are fornuns, Monasterys for monks. We have gender segregation in sports.Women's toilets for women, etc. Mother's Rooms for women with babies.
I don't begrudge any group a little positive discrimination...in thisspecific case it's not like there are a shortage of pubs in Australiato go to.....
Sounds like the venue wants to sort out trouble before entry into thepub, and not within it. Perhaps they're not worried about one or twoindividual ratbags, it's just the drunken sex-tour groups that may bean issue? One thought occurs to me. I know several gay and/or lesbianfolks myself. Not that I'm a pub goer (a rarity in Oz!) but it seems alittle sad that if we wanted to go to this hotel in a group that someof us might be barred entry. Then again, there are probably hotelswhere gay people would be unwise to visit 'indiscreetly'.
But the ruling seems moderately reasonable to me. And I'm wary of rabidhomophobic, fundamentalism that frothingly shrieks, "This is justanother unholy wedge...!"
At the same time, like Gail, If some one can convince me that this is a genuinely harmful ruling well, I'll keep an open mind.
I guess Gail's picture with the lasses hair hiding her face ismeant to symbolise a bit of identity ambiguity? Everything else beingon show, there is still some doubt.....?
